Which size inverter do I need?
Add up the running watts of everything you will use at the same time, then leave about 20% headroom. Motors and compressors (fridges, saws, pumps) can pull 2–3 times their running watts for a moment when they start. The PWD150S is a good fit for phones, tablets, laptops, CPAP machines and small chargers. It plugs into a 12 V socket, which most vehicles fuse at 10–15 A (about 120–180 W), so it does not need a battery hookup.
| Appliance | Typical running watts | Fits the PWD150S? |
|---|---|---|
| Phone / tablet charger | 10–20 W | Yes |
| Laptop | 60–90 W | Yes |
| CPAP (no humidifier) | 30–60 W | Yes |
| LED TV 32–50 in. | 50–120 W | Yes |
| Electric blanket | 100–200 W | Maybe, check your appliance label |
| 12 V-replacement mini fridge | 60–150 W | Maybe, check your appliance label |
| Slow cooker | 150–300 W | Maybe, check your appliance label |
| Full-size refrigerator (start-up) | 150–1200 W | Maybe, check your appliance label |
| Coffee maker (drip) | 600–1000 W | No, choose a larger size |
| Microwave (700 W cooking) | 1100–1200 W | No, choose a larger size |
| Circular saw (start-up) | 1400–2500 W | No, choose a larger size |
| Hair dryer | 1200–1875 W | No, choose a larger size |
| Space heater | 750–1500 W | No, choose a larger size |
| Toaster oven | 1200–1500 W | No, choose a larger size |
These are typical figures. Always check the wattage label on your own appliance.
Modified sine wave vs. pure sine wave: the honest version
PowerDrive doesn't publish the waveform for the PWD150S. Compact inverters like this are typically modified sine wave, so plan around that. Modified sine wave runs most chargers, laptops, phones, TVs, lights, power tools, heaters and coffee makers just fine, and it costs far less than pure sine wave. Some devices do better on pure sine wave: certain CPAP heated humidifiers, variable-speed tools, some battery chargers for cordless tools, audio gear (which may hum), medical equipment, and anything with a sensitive motor or a timer clock. GFCI outlets and devices may not work properly on modified sine wave either. If your equipment's manual calls for pure sine wave, buy a pure sine wave inverter.

FAQ
Will the PWD150S run a microwave?
No. A microwave draws about 1,100 W or more, so you need a 1500 W or larger inverter connected directly to the battery.
Can I plug it into my cigarette lighter / 12 V socket?
Yes, that is how it is designed to be used.
How long will my battery last?
Roughly divide your load watts by 10 to get the 12 V amps drawn. For example, a 500 W load draws about 50 A, so a 100 Ah battery gives about 1–1.5 hours of usable runtime. Run the engine for long or heavy use.
Is this a pure sine wave inverter?
The manufacturer doesn't list it as pure sine wave, so treat it as modified sine wave.
What warranty does it have?
1-year limited manufacturer warranty.
When will it ship?
Orders placed by 2 PM PT ship the same day, and we ship to all 50 states. Call 916-235-0009 with questions.
